Comprehensive Care for Chronic Tension Headaches & Rebound Pain
Break the cycle of daily tension headaches and medication overuse. Our neurologists offer advanced neuromodulation and muscle-release strategies for lasting relief.
What is a Tension-Type Headache (TTH)?
Tension-type headaches are the most widespread headache disorder globally. While occasional episodic tension headaches are easily managed with rest, chronic tension headaches (occurring 15+ days per month) can significantly impair productivity, sleep, and emotional health. They stem from complex interactions between heightened pain sensitivity in the central nervous system and muscular tension in the head, neck, and shoulders.
Key Symptoms & Triggers
Pain Characteristics: A dull, aching, constant pressure felt across both sides of the head (bilateral). Patients frequently describe it as a tight band squeezing around their forehead or temples.
Muscle Tightness: Significant tightness and tenderness across the scalp, temples, jaw, posterior neck, and trapezius muscles.
Absence of Migraine Symptoms: Unlike migraines, tension headaches generally do not cause nausea, vomiting, or visual auras, and physical activity usually does not make the pain worse.
Common Triggers: Prolonged stress, anxiety, computer screen eye strain, poor ergonomics, teeth clenching, and sleep deprivation.
Advanced Neurological Treatments Offered
When daily over-the-counter medications lead to dangerous Medication Overuse Headaches (rebound headaches), our specialists implement safer, long-term neurological strategies:
Central Sensitizing Neuromodulators: Low-dose prescription preventive medications (such as tricyclic agents or SNRIs) that re-calibrate central nervous system pain signaling pathways.
Trigger Point Injections (TPI): Precise administration of local anesthetics into hyper-irritable muscle knots in the neck, shoulders, and pericranial muscles.
Preventive Behavioral Neurological Coaching: Stress management, ergonomic adjustments, and targeted biofeedback to prevent chronic muscular contraction.
